Why purchase original artwork?
Art expresses the personality and taste of the homeowner and is also a great conversation starter. I believe an original piece of artwork brings a dynamic to a space that can’t be achieved with a print.
Creating a study in the style of one the old masters is not only a wonderful method for myself as an artist to grow, but also an opportunity to own a piece of art history at a fraction of the cost of the original.
Pencil is also a wonderful medium and perfect to create a portrait of a loved one. A hand drawn commissioned pencil portrait that depicts a treasured moment in time is truly a unique gift.

All portraits are hand drawn on white bristol board which is an uncoated, machine-finished paperboard with an excellent extra smooth white surface, ideal for the pencil medium.
Each one is signed and carefully wrapped in protective acid free tissue, ready to be mounted and framed. If you prefer to receive your portrait ready framed, I’m happy to discuss this option and pricing with you.
How to commission an artwork:
- Choose your size portrait — I would recommend A3 for more than one subject.
- Email your favourite photograph(s) to see which ones are suitable to create a portrait from. Photos will need to be clear and sharp, as this allows me to create a realistic pencil drawing. A photo taken with a good smartphone should be fine.
- Discuss and agree the final commissioned photo.
- Send the deposit.
- Approve the preview and pay the final balance.
- Receive your artwork and display.
Portraits take up to three weeks from ordering to completion.
Should you not be completely satisfied with your portrait, you can return it for a full refund in the condition it was received, excluding postage and packing.

Born in Dorset, Alison, now lives in the rural village of Lytchett Matravers with her husband and two children.
From an early age, Alison recalls being greatly influenced by the work of her great uncle, Anglo-Burmese artist E G MacColl, well known for his etchings of local scenes and portraits of Burmese people.
Feeling inspired, she discovered an affinity to MacColl’s work and began to favour the simplicity of graphite drawings, specifically portraits.
After many years working for a national charity, Alison returned to her love of art having rediscovered her love of portrait drawing and, more recently, her new found passion for painting.
